Managed Cloud Servers in India vs Developer Clouds vs AWS EC2 (2026)

ZenoCloud VPS from ₹930 (17 Oct 2026) vs US developer clouds from $4 and AWS EC2 Mumbai from $16 (12 Oct). Who runs the server, and what the price omits.

A matte navy balance scale with one gold pan, on warm paper.

Three ways to get a Linux server for a production website or app in India, with 12 October 2026 prices: a developer cloud VM from $4 a month that you run yourself; an AWS EC2 instance in Mumbai from $16 a month for a small burstable instance, plus storage and transfer, that you also run yourself; or a ZenoCloud VPS in Mumbai from ₹930 a month that you run, or the same VPS with Managed Server at ₹9,999 a month on top (₹11,181 for 2 vCPU and 8 GB). For a business without a sysadmin, the managed option is the one where someone else is accountable for the server. For a developer who wants an API and a credit card, the first is fine. For a team already built on AWS services, the second, and we can run that too.

Last verified: 12 October 2026 for developer cloud, AWS and exchange-rate figures; ZenoCloud prices were checked on 17 October 2026. Market dollar prices are converted at ₹95.78 to the dollar (ECB, 12 October 2026). ZenoCloud VPS prices are in rupees: the dollar figures beside them are conversions at that same rate, for comparison only, not published dollar prices. Monthly estimates use 730 hours. All prices exclude taxes.

The three products

Developer clouds sell virtual machines with a clean panel, an API and a tutorial library. One US provider we checked on 12 October 2026 lists basic VMs from $4 a month (1 vCPU, 512 MiB) up to $18 (2 vCPU, 2 GiB), and general-purpose VMs at $63 (2 vCPU, 8 GiB), $126 (4 vCPU, 16 GiB) and $252 (8 vCPU, 32 GiB), with outbound transfer allowances that grow with size. It has an Indian region. You are the sysadmin.

AWS EC2 sells instances in its Mumbai region (ap-south-1). On-demand Linux prices from the AWS price list on 12 October 2026: t3.small (2 vCPU, 2 GiB, burstable) $0.0224 an hour, about $16 a month; t3.medium (2 vCPU, 4 GiB) $0.0448, about $33; m6i.large (2 vCPU, 8 GiB) $0.101, about $74; m6i.xlarge (4 vCPU, 16 GiB) $0.202, about $147; m5.2xlarge (8 vCPU, 32 GiB) $0.404, about $295. EBS storage, a public IPv4 address and data transfer out beyond the free 100 GB a month are billed on top. You are still the sysadmin, with a much larger catalogue to configure.

ZenoCloud VPS are VMs in Mumbai or Noida on NVMe, sold monthly on a rupee invoice, self-managed by default, with Managed Server as the add-on that runs them. Prices from the VPS page, checked 17 October 2026 (each size includes a 30 GB NVMe boot disk):

Family vCPU RAM Price (INR, excl. GST) About, in USD at ₹95.78
General purpose 1 4 GB ₹930 $9.7
General purpose 2 8 GB ₹1,182 $12.3
General purpose 4 16 GB ₹2,079 $21.7
General purpose 8 32 GB ₹3,904 $40.8
CPU intensive 2 4 GB ₹931 $9.7
CPU intensive 4 8 GB ₹1,538 $16.1
CPU intensive 8 16 GB ₹2,781 $29.0

Memory-optimised sizes start at ₹1,180 for 1 vCPU and 8 GB. More disk is block storage at ₹6.2 per GB a month, and a static IPv4 address is ₹200 a month. Managed Server, where we run the server, is ₹9,999 a month per cloud VM, plus the VPS. It covers OS and stack setup and hardening, patching, 24/7 monitoring with response, daily backups with a monthly restore test, security-event monitoring on that server and a P1 response under 15 minutes, with a free standard move from one host (3-month minimum). A 2 vCPU, 8 GB VPS with it is ₹1,182 + ₹9,999 = ₹11,181 a month.

Selected configurations and list prices

Size Developer cloud, US provider AWS EC2 Mumbai, compute only ZenoCloud Mumbai
2 vCPU, 2 to 4 GB $18 for 2 vCPU and 2 GiB (no 4 GiB basic size on the page we read) t3.small $16 (2 GiB); t3.medium $33 (4 GiB); plus EBS, IPv4 and transfer ₹931 (about $9.7) for 2 vCPU and 4 GB, CPU intensive
2 vCPU, 8 GB $63 m6i.large $74, plus extras ₹1,182 (about $12.3) for 2 vCPU and 8 GB
4 vCPU, 8 to 16 GB $126 for 4 vCPU and 16 GiB m6i.xlarge $147 for 16 GiB, plus extras ₹1,538 (about $16.1) for 4 vCPU and 8 GB, CPU intensive; ₹2,079 (about $21.7) for 4 vCPU and 16 GB
8 vCPU, 16 to 32 GB $252 for 8 vCPU and 32 GiB m5.2xlarge $295 for 32 GiB, plus extras ₹2,781 (about $29.0) for 8 vCPU and 16 GB, CPU intensive; ₹3,904 (about $40.8) for 8 vCPU and 32 GB

Read it honestly. These are still not identical configurations, and the list prices leave things out. The developer cloud's $4 plan (1 vCPU, 512 MiB) is cheaper than anything we sell: our cheapest is ₹930, about $9.7, with 4 GB; nothing we sell costs $4. From 2 vCPU up, the ZenoCloud list price is below the developer cloud and AWS compute-only prices in every row above. Ours include a 30 GB boot disk, so add block storage and a static IPv4 address (₹6.2 per GB and ₹200 a month) before comparing; AWS adds EBS, IPv4 and per-GB transfer to its compute price, and transfer allowances differ, which we have not compared here. Add Managed Server and the 2 vCPU, 8 GB line becomes ₹1,182 + ₹9,999 = ₹11,181 a month (about $117), above the $63 and $74 self-run prices; the extra ₹9,999 is the operations work.

Also read what the price buys. On all three you get root on an empty Linux box. ZenoCloud is the one of the three that sells the operations team on the same order form, as Managed Server.

Location and connection time

The developer cloud has an Indian region and AWS has Mumbai, so none of the three forces you abroad; pick the Indian region whichever you choose. Our 12 October 2026 TCP-connect samples from Noida to AWS endpoints measured Mumbai at 31 to 45 ms, Singapore at 76 to 224 ms (one slow sample) and US East at 277 to 347 ms. Those are connection times to AWS regions from one office, not measurements of any hosting service.

A business owner running a WooCommerce store should not be the person who finds out a backup never worked. The managed column is the product for that person. The other columns are products for engineers, and good ones.

Where the developer cloud wins

Smaller and cheaper entry VMs, a mature API with infrastructure-as-code support, managed databases, Kubernetes and object storage, and an Indian region. If you are a developer prototyping, or a technical team that will do the ops work properly, it is a good platform. Count the hours: our budgeting estimate is 10 to 20 a month of patching, monitoring, backups and incidents for a production site, and at estimated Indian rates of ₹500 to ₹3,000 an hour that is ₹5,000 to ₹60,000 a month on top of the VM.

Where AWS wins

Elastic auto-scaling, a very large managed-service catalogue, and a Mumbai region. If your application uses RDS, SQS, Lambda or S3 as building blocks, EC2 is the natural compute. The costs that surprise people are not the instance price: it is EBS, NAT gateways, data transfer and the engineer time to keep an account tidy. We run AWS accounts for that reason, on a fixed monthly fee, with an AWS cost review first, so a team that belongs on AWS still has a desk that answers.

Our recommendation

  • Production site or store for Indian users, no in-house ops: a ZenoCloud VPS with Managed Server: ₹11,181 a month for 2 vCPU and 8 GB (₹1,182 + ₹9,999), or ₹12,078 for 4 vCPU and 16 GB (₹2,079 + ₹9,999). A single WordPress site is cheaper on Managed WordPress from ₹2,499. Mumbai or Noida, rupee invoice, free standard move, someone accountable.
  • Developer or technical team that wants root and an API: a ZenoCloud VPS in Mumbai from ₹930 for the rupee invoice and the upgrade path to managed, or the developer cloud's Indian region for its API and managed add-ons.
  • AWS-native application: EC2 in Mumbai, and let us run the account if nobody owns it.

If you are on a developer cloud today and the ops hours have become your job, ask for a quote: a standard move from one host is free with Managed Server (3-month minimum).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a cloud server in India cost?

On 17 October 2026 a ZenoCloud VPS in Mumbai or Noida costs ₹930 a month for 1 vCPU, 4 GB and 30 GB NVMe, ₹1,182 for 2 vCPU and 8 GB, ₹2,079 for 4 vCPU and 16 GB, and ₹3,904 for 8 vCPU and 32 GB, excluding GST. CPU-intensive and memory-optimised sizes are also listed. Managed Server is ₹9,999 a month per VM on top.

How much does AWS EC2 cost in Mumbai?

On-demand Linux prices on 12 October 2026: t3.small $0.0224 an hour (about $16 a month), t3.medium $0.0448 (about $33), m6i.large $0.101 (about $74), m6i.xlarge $0.202 (about $147). EBS storage, a public IPv4 address and data transfer beyond 100 GB a month are extra.

Is a developer cloud VM cheaper than ZenoCloud?

At the smallest size, yes: the US provider we checked starts at $4 a month (1 vCPU, 512 MiB), below our ₹930 (about $9.7, with 1 vCPU and 4 GB). From 2 vCPU up, ZenoCloud's listed VPS price is lower in every row we compared, for example ₹1,182 (about $12.3) for 2 vCPU and 8 GB against $63, before disk, IPv4 and transfer differences; there is no like-for-like winner.

What does managed mean on a ZenoCloud VPS?

With Managed Server (₹9,999 a month per VM, plus the VPS) our team sets up and hardens the OS, patches it, monitors 24/7 with response, runs daily backups with a monthly restore test, watches security events on that server and responds to P1 incidents in under 15 minutes. On a self-managed VPS you do these yourself.

Should I choose AWS or a managed cloud server?

Choose AWS if your application depends on AWS services or needs elastic scaling, and have someone own the account. Choose a managed VPS in Mumbai if you need a fast, predictable server for a site or store and nobody on the team wants to be the sysadmin.

Does ZenoCloud migrate my site from another cloud?

Yes, on Managed Server, at no charge for a standard move from one host (3-month minimum): files, databases, email and DNS, tested on staging before cutover, with zero downtime and a typical timeline of 24 to 72 hours depending on data volume.
