Four kinds of automated traffic reach Cloudflare. Verified search and AI-answer crawlers such as Googlebot, Bingbot and OAI-SearchBot are allowed. AI training crawlers are allowed or blocked according to your policy. Signed AI agents acting for real people are allowed, with rate limits on checkout, login and account pages. Scrapers and fake browsers are blocked at Cloudflare and never reach your content or APIs.
Unverified bots such as scrapers and fake browsers reach Cloudflare and are inspected. Suspicious traffic branches into two mitigations: a managed challenge or a rate limit. Fake browsers fail the challenge and are blocked. Traffic that passes is checked again for behaviour before it reaches your site’s content and APIs.
