What is VDI?

Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) runs desktops as virtual machines on data-centre servers. Users reach their desktop from a PC, laptop or thin client over a secure connection; programs run on the server and the device shows the screen. Hosted VDI means a provider runs those servers for you.

The three terms

VDI, DaaS or cloud PC?

The terms overlap. VDI names the technology, DaaS names a delivery model, cloud PC names a product category. A DaaS service can run on VDI.

Choosing

When each one fits.

  • Hosted VDI (ZenoCloud)

You need a specific GPU, servers you choose, or batch booking.

Studios, design and engineering teams, institutes. Pilot first.

  • DaaS

You need provider-managed desktops with monthly or usage-based billing.

Availability and GPU options depend on the provider and region.

  • Cloud PC

Your people live in Microsoft 365 and want Microsoft-managed PCs.

Windows 365 is Microsoft’s Cloud PC; licensed per user through Microsoft.

Hosted VDI pilots are our offer. Where a hyperscaler desktop fits better, we say so.

Who it is for

GPU desktops and labs.

  • Studios and post-production

GPU desktops for editing, 3D and real-time work, to be tested from your offices.

  • Design, architecture and engineering teams

CAD and BIM desktops on NVIDIA profiles, to be tested in the pilot.

  • Education

Timetabled GPU labs for colleges and institutes, pilot first. See virtual labs.

What we do

The facts, in one place.

Status
A pilot programme. Nothing is called a service until the pilot passes agreed criteria.
Where it runs
Dedicated servers in India; NVIDIA GPUs for GPU desktops.
Who runs it
ZenoCloud builds and operates the pilot with a 24/7 desk behind the servers.
Company and stack
Indian company since 2009; Indian desktop-software partner; invoices in INR with GST.
Desktop types
GPU desktops on NVIDIA virtual-workstation profiles, to be confirmed in the pilot.
Windows
Your eligible per-user Windows licences; route confirmed first.
Your data
Storage, retention and file-transfer controls to be agreed and tested in the pilot.
How we size it
People working at once set compute; named users set licences. The pilot sets capacity.

Each line has a fuller answer in the questions below.

Pilot process

Start with a pilot.

  1. Discuss your applications, people at once, data rules and where they connect from.
  2. Agree what must pass, then test hosted desktops from your network with your applications.
  3. Receive a report: measurements, what passed, and a sizing recommendation with tested limits.

Pilot capacity, duration, fee and credit are agreed in writing before it starts.

Pricing inputs

What moves the price.

Quoted after the pilot, as reserved monthly capacity. The quote separates GPU capacity, Windows and NVIDIA licences, storage, platform and support, and shows the pilot result it came from.

  • People working at once set compute; named users set licences.
  • Desktop type: GPU profile size.
  • Windows route: your per-user licences, confirmed first.
  • NVIDIA virtual-workstation licences for GPU desktops.
  • Storage, retention and backups.
  • Support scope: platform only, or user help too.

GPU card list prices, per card per month, before taxes. Checked 14 Oct 2026.

  • NVIDIA L4 24GBFrom ₹32,000
  • NVIDIA L40S 48GBFrom ₹55,000
  • NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 96GBFrom ₹1,10,000

GPU card prices are not desktop prices. Desktops per card come from the pilot.

Every card and its price is on our GPU cloud page. Virtual desktops are quoted.

Questions

Virtual desktop questions.

What is the difference between VDI and DaaS?

VDI is the technology: desktops running as virtual machines on servers. Desktop as a service (DaaS) is a delivery model: a provider runs the desktops and bills per desktop or per hour, as Amazon WorkSpaces does. A DaaS service can run on VDI; the terms overlap.

Is a cloud PC the same as a virtual desktop?

A cloud PC is a virtual desktop sold as a per-user product; Windows 365 is Microsoft’s Cloud PC service. The term says nothing by itself about the hardware, the price model or who manages it. Hosted VDI gives a similar desktop on servers you choose, run for you.

Can a virtual desktop have a GPU?

Yes. A desktop can use an NVIDIA virtual-workstation profile (a share of a card’s memory, with compute shared or isolated depending on the mode). The pilot validates the configuration, licences and application performance before any capacity is quoted.

What does a hosted virtual desktop cost?

It is quoted after a pilot, in rupees. GPU cards list from ₹32,000 (L4 24GB), ₹55,000 (L40S 48GB), ₹1,10,000 (RTX PRO 6000 96GB) per card per month before taxes. Windows and NVIDIA licences, storage, platform and support complete the total. GPU card prices are not desktop prices.

Who supplies the Windows licence?

It depends on the route. You bring eligible per-user Windows licences under Microsoft’s rules for outsourced hosting. A provider cannot supply Windows 11 under SPLA; other Microsoft routes depend on the hosting chain. We confirm the route first.

Where is desktop data stored?

Desktops and project storage run on servers we operate. Some licence servers and application services call home abroad; the pilot lists which, and download, copy and USB rules are set with you. The full data-location statement follows the pilot’s review.

Can people work from home or from another city?

That is the design: people sign in through a secure gateway from their own connection and reach the same desktop. Programs run on the server; the device shows the screen. The pilot tests the experience from the cities your people work in, with their devices.

Do you run virtual labs for colleges?

As a pilot programme: timetabled GPU labs for colleges and institutes, booked by batch, on the institution’s own licences, tested with their students before any quote. See virtual labs.
