Shared hosting costs ₹69 to ₹599 a month on a four-year prepaid deal and ₹289 to ₹1,599 when it renews. Managed hosting on ZenoCloud starts at ₹7,999 a month. The shared plan is the right first server for a blog, a portfolio or a brochure site, and we will not pretend otherwise. The managed plan is for the stage after: a store that loses orders when the server slows, a site that has to run more than WordPress, a business that wants an engineer accountable for the server rather than a chat agent. This guide tells you how to recognise that stage, what the extra money buys, and how the move works.
Last verified: 12 October 2026. Shared-hosting prices come from the India price pages of two large shared hosts and the WordPress-hosting page of a third, global one, all read on 12 October 2026; they exclude tax.
What shared hosting costs today
| Host (anonymised) | Promotional price | Term for the promo | Renewal price | Data centre nearest India |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shared host A, India site | ₹69 to ₹599 a month | 48 months prepaid (₹3,312 to ₹28,752) | ₹289 to ₹1,599 a month | Not stated on the plan page |
| Shared host B, India site | ₹89 to ₹399 a month | First 3-year term | ₹299 to ₹1,099 a month | North America and Europe listed |
| Global host C, WordPress plans | $3.99 to $10.69 a month | 12 months prepaid | $17.99 to $44.99 a month | Singapore |
Three things to notice. The headline price needs one to four years paid up front. The renewal price is 2.6 to 4.5 times the headline. And the server is often not in India: one of the three lists only North America and Europe, one names Singapore as its closest location, and one does not say. Our 12 October 2026 TCP-connect samples from Noida to AWS regional endpoints ran 31 to 45 ms for Mumbai, 76 to 97 ms for Singapore on two of three samples (the third was 224 ms) and 277 to 347 ms for US East.
Even so, for ₹289 to ₹1,599 a month at renewal you get a working website, a control panel and chat support. For a first site that is good value.
What to check before relying on shared hosting
These are the structural questions, whichever brand sells the plan:
- How many sites share the server, and how are accounts isolated? On most shared plans CPU, memory and disk I/O are what is left after the neighbours take theirs.
- What happens when traffic exceeds the plan's limits? Shared servers are provisioned for average load. A festival sale, a press mention or a campaign that works lands on a resource limit, and the usual remedy is a higher shared plan with the same model.
- Can you configure the server? Varnish, Redis tuned for your sessions, Elasticsearch, a PHP-FPM pool sized for your catalogue, custom Nginx rules and background workers are normally not available on shared plans.
- Which runtimes are supported? Laravel, Node.js, Python and Magento usually need a server you control.
- Where does support stop? Ask whether the desk investigates slow queries, cron jobs that do not fire or a plugin leaking memory, or whether the answer is "clear your cache and deactivate plugins".
- What does compliance need? Card data (PCI DSS) and personal data (DPDP) need server-level controls, logging and agents you cannot usually install on a shared account.
Seven signs you have outgrown it
Use these to investigate hosting limits alongside your application and database; if three or more are true, the hosting is the likely bottleneck.
- The site slows or goes down during traffic spikes, and support says you hit a resource limit.
- You spend hours each month on hosting workarounds: purging caches, trimming plugins, splitting databases.
- Your WooCommerce or Magento catalogue has grown and search, imports or checkout time out.
- Your developer keeps hitting "not available on shared hosting".
- Downtime now costs money, not just face.
- You need to run something other than WordPress.
- Support cannot reach your actual problem.
What ZenoCloud managed hosting includes
From the managed hosting page on 12 October 2026, excluding GST:
| Plan | Monthly | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | ₹7,999 ($99) | Full management on dedicated infrastructure in Mumbai, daily backups with 14-day retention, 24/7 uptime monitoring, Cloudflare CDN, managed SSL, free migration |
| Business | ₹19,999 ($249) | Adds a staging environment, resource alerts, Slack and email support with a 4-hour SLA |
| Pro | ₹39,999 ($499) | Daily and on-demand backups with 60-day retention, a dedicated Slack channel, 1-hour P1 SLA |
Stack-specific plans exist for WordPress, WooCommerce and Magento from ₹12,000 a month, with LiteSpeed and Redis tuned for WordPress or Varnish, Redis and Elasticsearch for Magento. All managed plans carry a 99.9% uptime SLA, bill month to month on a rupee invoice, cancel with 30 days' notice, and include a free zero-downtime migration. The general managed-hosting plans list a P1 response under 15 minutes; the Magento plans list 24/7 P1 incident response with support SLAs of 8, 4 or 1 hour by tier.
What that means day to day:
- Your team ships product; ours runs the server. Setup, OS updates, security patching, monitoring, backups and performance tuning are our job. You keep root access.
- The stack is tuned for your application. Redis object caching, Varnish or LiteSpeed page caching, MySQL optimisation and PHP-FPM pool sizing for your site.
- Engineers answer. Slack, WhatsApp and phone on the higher tiers, not a ticket queue; P1 response under 15 minutes on the general managed-hosting plans.
- Any stack. WordPress, Magento, WooCommerce and custom apps, on one invoice.
- Server-level controls for compliance work. WAF, logging, hardening and vulnerability management on the higher tiers; custom PCI-DSS and HIPAA configurations on request. We support your compliance scope; we do not sell certification.
If you want your own server without the management, a self-managed VPS in Mumbai starts at ₹2,500 a month (2 vCPU, 4 GB, NVMe) and managed ops can be added later without a server migration.
The price gap, in context
₹289 to ₹1,599 a month at renewal against ₹7,999: the move adds roughly ₹6,400 to ₹7,700 a month, ₹77,000 to ₹92,000 a year. It buys three things shared hosting does not sell: a server tuned and run for your application, engineers who answer, and infrastructure that is yours. For a blog that earns nothing, it is overspending; stay on shared. For a store, a SaaS product with paying users or an agency with reliability promises to clients, compare that figure with the hours you spend on workarounds and with what an outage during a sale costs you.
How the move works
- Assessment. You tell us the stack, traffic, database size and integrations. We recommend the plan and the server.
- Provisioning. The server is built in Mumbai with the stack your application needs.
- Migration in parallel. We move files, databases, email and DNS while your shared site stays live, and test everything on staging.
- Your verification. You test checkout, forms, admin and anything custom on the new server.
- DNS cutover. Zero downtime.
Migration is free on every managed plan; the typical timeline is 24 to 72 hours depending on data volume, agreed before we start.
Our recommendation
- Blog, portfolio or brochure site, WordPress only, no revenue riding on it: stay on shared hosting. Pay the renewal price knowingly and pick a host with a server near your readers.
- Store, SaaS, agency client sites, anything that loses money when it is slow, or anything beyond WordPress: move to managed hosting in Mumbai. Start at ₹7,999, or ₹12,000 for the WordPress, WooCommerce or Magento plans.
- Developer who wants control without the management: a Mumbai VPS from ₹2,500.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does shared hosting cost in India?
On 12 October 2026 two India price pages listed ₹69 to ₹599 a month on 48-month prepaid deals (renewing at ₹289 to ₹1,599) and ₹89 to ₹399 on a first three-year term (renewing at ₹299 to ₹1,099). A global host listed $3.99 to $10.69, renewing at $17.99 to $44.99.
How much does managed hosting cost in India?
ZenoCloud's managed hosting in Mumbai costs ₹7,999 ($99), ₹19,999 ($249) or ₹39,999 ($499) a month, excluding GST, with free zero-downtime migration. Managed WordPress, WooCommerce and Magento plans start at ₹12,000 a month.
When should I move from shared to managed hosting?
When measured resource limits cause downtime that costs money, your developer needs server configuration the plan does not allow, you run more than WordPress, or support cannot reach your actual problem. Rule out application and database faults first; three of those signs together point at the hosting.
Is shared hosting hosted in India?
Often not. Of the three pages we read on 12 October 2026, one listed only North America and Europe, one named Singapore as its nearest location and one did not say. Ask the host which data centre your plan runs in before you buy.
Does ZenoCloud migrate my site from shared hosting for free?
Yes, on every managed plan: files, databases, email and DNS, tested on staging, then a zero-downtime DNS cutover. The typical timeline is 24 to 72 hours depending on data volume, and cPanel, Plesk and raw migrations are all supported.
Can I get my own server without paying for management?
Yes. A self-managed VPS in Mumbai starts at ₹2,500 a month for 2 vCPU, 4 GB and 50 GB NVMe, and a dedicated server at ₹10,900. Managed ops can be added to the VPS later without a server migration.
