Cloudways Alternative

Cloudways alternative: fully managed , not a dashboard

Cloudways layers a management UI on top of DigitalOcean, AWS, or GCP — you still configure server sizes, PHP settings, and caching yourself. ZenoCloud engineers do that work for you, plus 2,000+ Magento migrations, India datacenter, and INR billing.

What 'fully managed' actually means

Cloudways calls itself managed. The key question is: managed by who — you or them?

Named engineers, not a ticket queue

Cloudways support resolves server-layer tickets. They don't debug your Magento extension conflicts or tune your Redis cache size for your catalog. ZenoCloud engineers know your application.

Magento depth Cloudways can't match

Cloudways supports Magento generic installs. They cannot help with Hyvä, headless Commerce, Varnish cache rules, or complex extension conflicts. ZenoCloud has 17 years and 2,000+ migrations.

India datacenter and INR billing

Cloudways bills in USD with Singapore or Mumbai as the nearest DO region. ZenoCloud has India-native infrastructure, INR billing, WhatsApp support, and IST-timezone engineers.

We apply patches; you don't file tickets

Cloudways automates basic patches. ZenoCloud engineers apply OS, PHP, MySQL, and kernel patches proactively — usually before you notice there's a vulnerability to patch.

Performance tuned for your app

On Cloudways, you configure PHP memory limits, Redis cache size, and Varnish rules yourself. ZenoCloud engineers tune all of this based on your actual workload and application profile.

Application-level monitoring

Cloudways monitors server health. ZenoCloud monitors your application — MySQL slow queries, PHP-FPM pool exhaustion, Varnish hit rates, and custom app metrics — and fixes what we find.

Note on the price gap: Cloudways $14 = a DigitalOcean droplet plus a management panel — you still configure, tune, and troubleshoot. ZenoCloud $145 = the infra, plus engineers running it, plus zero-downtime migration, plus application-level security and monitoring. Different products — compare what you're actually buying, not the sticker.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Cloudways and truly managed hosting?
Cloudways provides a management layer on top of cloud providers (DigitalOcean, AWS, GCP), but you're still responsible for many configuration decisions — server sizing, PHP configuration, caching setup, and troubleshooting. With ZenoCloud, our engineers handle all of that. We tune your Redis cache size, configure Varnish rules, and apply security patches proactively. You focus on the application; we focus on the infrastructure.
Is Cloudways cheaper than ZenoCloud?
Cloudways has a lower entry price ($14/mo) but you're paying for infrastructure access plus basic management tooling. When you factor in the time your team spends on configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting — and the cost of premium support add-ons on Cloudways — the total cost of ownership often exceeds what ZenoCloud charges for genuinely managed hosting. At ZenoCloud's Starter tier ($145/mo), you're getting a team that handles everything included.
Does Cloudways support Magento as well as ZenoCloud?
Cloudways technically supports Magento installs, but they have no Magento engineering depth. They cannot help with Hyvä theme setups, headless Adobe Commerce, Varnish cache configuration for Magento, Elasticsearch tuning, or complex extension conflicts. ZenoCloud has 7+ years and 2,000+ Magento store migrations. For any Magento store beyond a basic install, the difference is significant.
What happened to Cloudways support after DigitalOcean acquired them?
DigitalOcean acquired Cloudways in September 2022. Multiple G2 and Trustpilot reviews from 2023–2025 cite slower response times and less capable support post-acquisition. We cannot speak to their internal operations, but the pattern is consistent in public reviews. ZenoCloud is independently owned and operated — same 35-person engineering team, same Mumbai hardware, no acquirer to answer to.
Can I migrate from Cloudways to ZenoCloud?
Yes. We offer free migration from Cloudways. Our team handles the export, data transfer, configuration optimization on our infrastructure, and zero-downtime cutover. Most Cloudways migrations complete within 24–48 hours. We support WordPress, Magento, WooCommerce, Laravel, and custom PHP applications.
Does ZenoCloud support cloud provider choice like Cloudways?
Cloudways differentiates by offering choice of cloud provider (DigitalOcean, AWS, GCP, Vultr, Linode). ZenoCloud runs on our own purpose-built infrastructure — we don't resell cloud VMs. This gives us better margins, consistent performance characteristics, and full control over the hardware layer. If you specifically need AWS or GCP infrastructure, our Cloud Ops pillar manages your existing cloud accounts.
What about Cloudways Autonomous for WordPress?
Cloudways Autonomous is their autoscaling WordPress product, targeted at WP Engine's territory. It starts at $100/mo and is WordPress-only. ZenoCloud's Business tier ($300/mo) offers managed WordPress with dedicated VPS resources, staging, WAF, and engineer-level support — plus Magento, WooCommerce, and custom PHP if you ever need to expand. And it's INR-billed for Indian clients.
How do the starting prices really compare?
Cloudways entry price is $14/mo. ZenoCloud Starter is $145/mo (₹12,000). The gap is real. If you're building a personal blog or side project, Cloudways (or SiteGround) is a fine choice. If you're running a production WooCommerce store, Magento deployment, or a client-facing application where downtime costs money, ZenoCloud's managed service is the product that justifies the price difference.
Does ZenoCloud have an agency program like Cloudways?
Yes. Our agency hosting plan offers multi-client management, white-label options, dedicated partner support channel, batch migrations, and wholesale pricing for agencies managing 10+ sites. We support WordPress, Magento, WooCommerce, and custom PHP — unlike Cloudways which has no Magento expertise. See our agency hosting page for details.
